Research practice

New Coningsby Surgery is a research practice.

Research can:

  • Find new and better ways of preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases or conditions
  • Test new ideas that could improve the lives of people receiving health or social care
  • Look at the costs and benefits of making changes in the community. Examples include introducing exercise programmes or screening for cancer in certain age groups
  • Help us understand how NHS and social care services can run in a more efficient way.

For more information visit the National Institute for Health and Care Research website.

When research projects become available, we will post them on this web page. This will include a little information about each study.

Research Site Initiative and National Institute for Health Research

The Welby Group is committed to helping deliver Clinical Research across all our Practices, working alongside colleagues from the National Institute for Health Research and East Midlands Clinical Research Network. We’re proud to give patients an opportunity to take part in research, so that together we can develop new treatments and medicines for the future.

An overwhelming majority of patients who participate in research studies have a positive experience. There are many different types of research available for people to take part in. Last year more people in the East Midlands took part in research in Primary Care settings than anywhere else in the country. Join them and help us to improve healthcare.

We will update our website with any studies the Practice is currently taking part in. Please let us know if you are interested in being a part of the studies we are running. There may also be other studies that are being run that the Practice isn’t involved in. You can volunteer, find out more information and see stories from others who have volunteered in research by going to: www.bepartofresearch.uk

Join Dementia Research

As a Research Practice we also support Join Dementia Research. Dementia affects more than 850,000 people in the UK. Research into dementia offers hope for patients with dementia and their families.

Only through research can we understand what causes dementia disease, develop effective treatments and improve the care of those living with dementia. For this research to take place we rely on volunteers of people both with and without dementia to take part in vital studies.

If you would like further information about the Join Dementia Research service, or would like to sign up to help beat dementia by volunteering, you can go to www.joindementiaresearch.nihr.ac.uk

Participant in Research Experience Survey

If you have taken part in a research study, we would love to find out more about your experience.

We would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete the Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES).

In order to complete the survey, you will need to enter the name of the research study you participated in, as well as the site at which you took part in the study. Your study team will be able to provide you with the information.

The Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES) is carried out to give research participants an opportunity to provide feedback based on their experience, and to make suggestions about how we can make taking part in research even better in the future.

In our region, it is led by the NIHR CRN East Midlands, working in partnership with organisations including NHS Trusts, GP Practices and care homes.

Participants are able to complete either paper or digital surveys. The survey collects information about a participant’s study and site so that the responses can be shared with the relevant study teams.

Responses are anonymous, but will be displayed publicly on the results page. Comments will be shared with participating organisations in order to help them identify ways to improve research for patients. For more information, please read the NIHR Privacy Policy.

You can find out more about the PRES at a national level on the NIHR website.
