Sickness Certificates
If you feel you do not need to see your doctor it is not necessary for your doctor to issue a certificate for the first week of your illness. For the first three days of illness you do not need a note at all.
From day four you must complete Self-certification form SC2 which may be obtained from your employer, DHSS or online [click here for online SC2]. If you are ill for more than 7 days you will need to make an appointment to see your doctor for a certificate (MED3). This can also be issued by the hospital if you are under their care.
If you require a sick note from your doctor for insurance purposes please ask your doctor for a private sick note for which a fee is payable.
If your employer insists on a note to cover a period less than seven days we can issue a private sick note but there will be a cost involved which it will be your responsibility to pay.
