How to Request a Repeat Prescription
The Practice operates a repeat prescription system which enables patients who take medication for chronic stable conditions to collect a prescription from the Surgery each month.
The repeat prescription can be ordered using the repeat side of the prescription sent by post or calling personally at the Surgery. Please, be aware that it will take two working days for your prescriptions to be ready for collection at the Surgery. If so requested your prescription can be delivered directly to the local Pharmacy. For those patients who have Internet access, repeat prescriptions can now also be requested online.
Medication Review
Patients must be reviewed after a pre-determined interval by the Doctor or Practice Nurse in order to stay on the repeat prescription system. This is to ensure that you are receiving the optimum treatment, to assess any problems that you may be encountering, and to answer any questions that you may have. The date of the review will be written on the repeat side of the prescription. Patients will be given one reminder to book a review appointment with a member of the team. If they fail to do so they may find they are unable to obtain their medication until they have seen a member of the team.
Collecting your Prescription
The Alliance Pharmacy in Coningsby operates a collection service from the Surgery. Please, inform the Receptionist, if you want to use this service.
If you enclose a SAE we will post your prescription to you.
Our Repeat Prescriptions Policy
It has been recommended by Government to supply only one month's medication at a time. The reasons supporting this position are that, firstly, it cuts down on wastage - patients who were prescribed perhaps three months of medication at a time were often changed to alternative medication during that period, meaning that the original medicine was then destroyed.
Secondly, we are forced to consider the rulings of Health and Safety; again, large supplies of medication often meant that patients became confused with the amount of tablets they were taking, or, alternatively, between large supplies of new and old medication.
For those reasons the Practice is conforming to the policy of one month's supply of medication.
We do realise that it is irritating to have to keep coming to the Surgery for your medicine. You may wish to consider posting your repeat request or ordering your repeat request online, and at least then you would only make one journey to collect the medication itself.
Whilst we realise that this is not the answer you were looking for, we do hope you can understand our reasons for maintaining this policy.
Prescriptions for Minor Illnesses
In general, we do not approve of occasional prescriptions being given for 'minor complaints' without a consultation. If your complaint has not responded to simple home or over the counter remedies then you should consult your GP or Practice Nurse if you think you require medication on prescription.
